Got ICS Manually
So as i mentioned earlier today(previous post)the Ice Cream Sandwich update has been taking its own sweet time to arrive on my Acer Iconia A500 tablet..
well about an hour back i lost patience and decided to do it myself using the method i mentioned .. the one from this XDA Forums post
Was a straight forward procedure:
basically i downloaded the update files(from the forum link above), that a user managed to download and zip.
1) make sure the file is called - "update.zip" if it isn't manually rename it. In my case the file's name was what it needed to be.
2) place the file on the micro sd card(check the forum for details on formatting etc.)My sd card was already formatted to spec.
3) turn off the tablet. i recommend having atleast 50% battery. in my case i left it connected to the power.
4) press the down volume key(closest to power button) and the power button at the same time untill the tablet turns on
5) the iconia will find the update files and start a process that looks like this(robot with gears and sprockets)

once that happens, it reboots .. in my case.. twice and then starts the upgrade process by itself.. nothing fancy, looks like this

nothing to do but watch and wait till it reboots.
now i have Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0.3

only disappointing thing was not finding a "move to sd" option, under settings for apps..
was hoping that would be there.. missed it in honeycomb.

I love Honeycomb. It was the first break away from the typical android ui.. its sleek, responsive..
Its a good change from the Froyo on my phone and Gingerbread i see on other devices.. My only major issue with it is the lack of app2sd support :( which means that my Iconia A500 can oly use the SD card for media files..comics..etc.
The update to Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to change that(i've heard unconfirmed rumors).
Hence the eager wait for the update. Acer had first announced(second quarter 2011) that the Iconia A500 would hget the update in Jan 2012.. thats when i started waiting for it.. then january came and went and then february.. and then there was a honeycom 3.2 update that got my hopes up.. but no ICS.
About a month back, while updating other acer apps(bloatware) it automatically installed an app called the ICONIA TAB Update Enhancement get it here
This was meant to facilitate the ICS update. And then there was the announcement that everyone would get the update on April 27th.. and a lot of people did get it on that date! but not me.. or the few iconia users i know here in bangalore.
There is a manual update option using the update files that a resourceful user has posted over at XDA Forums here basically you need to

Created a character with Exaggerated haunches and limb proportions.. rigging it was tricky.. but happened quite fast.

Got the latest version of Blender yesterday..

Notable new features that i enjoyed were:
A long awaited improvement in modelling called Bmesh.
"BMesh is the new Blender mesh system with full support for N-sided polygons instead of only triangles and quads.
In particular there is a new Dissolve tool to remove vertices, edges and faces without making holes in the mesh, a new Inset tool to inset faces, and a much improved Knife tool which takes advantage of N-gons to generate clear cuts. Tools such as subdivide and loop cut will also generate clean topology because faces no longer have to be triangulated."

The Tube Open Movie
The Tube Open Movie is inspired by the Gilgamesh poem, which comes down to us as an incomplete, conflicting set of fragments and variations, the clay tablet remnants of more than a few ruined libraries. The epic centers on the Sumerian king who ruled Uruk, in ancient Iraq, who for his tyranny the gods teach friendship and loss, and through them, the fear of his own death. In the end, the immortality he achieves is different to the one he first seeks. Nearly five thousand years later, Gilgamesh, a woman and a soldier, rushes into a station in pursuit of a fragment of paper blown about by the passing of trains. In an ever-accelerating vortex, her hero's progress becomes the animation's own frames.
They are currently raising funds for the movie at Kickstarter(at this link). They've already exceeded their $22,000 GOAL and are now aiming for $50,000. The project page has more info. check it out

Picked these up today. Shapeways had raised their shipping costs.. so me and a friend decided to pool in and order our prints together so that we could split the shipping costs. The package arrived a week back, but i was so busy at work and other stuff.. i could only go pick it up today.

Open World, Wild Western on Android
Got this game last night(Free)from the google Play store. It's basically a Wild West themed Open world RPG on your android(also on ios)device..
Reminded me a lot, of Red Dead Redemption(on PC, xbox etc.) its like that but with the added twist of .. well everything from regular run of the mill bandits and rattle snakes.. to zombies, hovering witches and all kinds of other stuff.

You have a horse, that helps cover large distances.. that helps
.. it also features what turned out to be a pretty good cover system. So far i've only upgraded the primary weapon(six shooter) but apparently you cna do lots more.. buy rifles, clothes that provide better protection, etc.
Requires around 300mb of space, so its not too heavy. Graphics are quite decent(wish there was a HD version for my tab though). Get it now for free, from the Play store here

Relatively Newer Tshirt designs
One of Earthwave's goals is to spread awareness about well known as well as lesser known endangered (and in some cases extinct) species of wildlife in india. these tshirts have been given away at schools during workshops, awareness campaigns etc.. they also go on sale whenever Earthwave make an appearence in public on occasion.
These have been screen printed in gorgeous 3 colour combos. The printing process involves water based inks..which are significantly less toxic than regular ink.. also the tshirts themselves are being made from organic cotton.
here are some new designs(well almost a year old actually), that have not yet been printed.
Ganges Shark
The shark, though poorly documented, is known to inhabit only freshwater, inshore marine and estuarine systems. Its feeding habits are unknown. Its maximum size is in the area of 2 metres (6.6 ft). It is probably viviparous, measuring 55 to 60 centimetres (22 to 24 in) at birth.
The Ganges shark is believed to be seriously endangered. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, the Ganges shark is one of 20 sharks on the “Red List” of endangered shark species. Widespread and rampant overfishing has depleted the population of these sharks. Their oil, along with that of the Gangetic Dolphin is highly sought after.
Sumatran Rhinoceros
The Sumatran Rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) is the smallest rhinoceros, standing about 120–145 centimetres (3.9–4.8 ft) high at the shoulder, with a body length of 250 centimetres (98 in) and weight of 500–800 kilograms (1100–1760 lb). Like the African species, it has two horns; the larger is the nasal horn, typically 15–25 centimetres (6–10 in), while the other horn is typically a stub. A coat of reddish-brown hair covers most of the Sumatran Rhino’s body.
Sumatran Rhinoceroses were once quite numerous throughout Southeast Asia. It is now estimated that fewer than 275 individuals remain. It is classed as critically endangered primarily due to illegal poaching and destruction of its rainforest habitat.
